I am good at what I do because I have put in the effort and I believe it has paid off.
I'm a very down to earth person, honest with strong ethics and worth ethos. I enrolled at TAFE because I strongly believe in working hard to gain experience through education and exploration.
I also believe it’s important to be skilled at what I am doing before I get paid to do it and of course, later down the track, to teach it.
My volunteer work in 2013 with year 11 and 12 students gave me experience in helping students with their projects and their folios. This also reinforced my skills in developing the design and technology portfolios.
My work at Bishop Druitt College gave me invaluable experience in the classroom. As a teachers aid I was able to observe a variety of different teaching and classroom management strategies. I also have learned a great deal about supporting individual learners and am eager to develop these skills and more knowledge.

Teaching Philosophy

Teach with compassion and enthusiasm, respect and discipline. Through professional development, be a life-long learner and dynamic in your ability to consider, adapt and apply new methods and resources. Be mindful that people learn in a variety of ways and have a variety of needs so be flexible and tolerant.

In teaching, I value being able to pass on skills and knowledge but more importantly, inspiring students to achieve small goals and aspire to greater dreams. Instilling students with self-value and self-esteem by facilitating them to develop the skills to create something from scratch with their own hands. In a time when very little is handmade, the sense of pride and accomplishment in creating something from nothing can be life changing.

Features that I believe are desirable in teaching include applying a range of different resources and teaching methods that incorporate different learning styles and abilities. The ability to be flexible and adapt to change in whatever situation, I believe is highly valued.
As a Technology and Applied Studies teacher, I feel it is also essential for teachers to have prolonged experience in the workshop to the point where working safely and competently is second nature. A teacher who is confident in their work and safety practices will be able to pass those skills onto students with more efficiency.

Design and Technology

I love this subject and I think it’s a great subject to get students to engage, be creative, think about the world around them and how they can make a difference. There is always something new and exciting just around the corner, designs and technology are always improving. The chance to inspire students with what was, what is and what could be in the near future (developing technologies) and their implications.

Industrial Technology

Industrial Technology is a practical subject that gives students who are not analytical a chance to shine. It teaches skills students could use in the future and possibly a stepping stone to their career. I think industrial tech is a great subject for teaching respect and discipline as without those two qualities, the workshop is a very dangerous environment.
It is also a very rewarding subject, at the end of the year, students have a physical project that shows their effort and skill for others to see clearly. For some students, this is a great and driving reward, with each completed project, their self-esteem, skill and enthusiasm grows.

Food Technology

Food Technology teaches skills students could use in the future and possibly a stepping stone to their career. I think it’s important that everyone knows how to prepare and cook simple, nutritional meals. I believe the growing obesity within the population can be put down largely to diet and the life skills, knowledge and habits, views and lifestyles needed to create a balanced diet.
Most students like eating food, especially free food, it also makes them popular with their friends on cooking days. Teaching this subject gives students an essential skill set and also increases social bonds.
